OVERVIEW
Ocean plastic pollution has become an increasingly prevalent issue as consumerism and disposable culture run rampant.
Into the Ocean is an interactive educational website highlighting the issue of ocean plastic pollution. The site aims to educate young students as well as parents to spread awareness and promote an environmentally conscious lifestyle.

MY ROLE
User research, asset creation, website design, social media

Sample of pages I designed and wrote content for. All illustrated assets were created by me and my team in Adobe Illustrator, and prototyped in Figma.

The Challenge
How can we make the topic of ocean plastic pollution an engaging learning experience? What can we do to encourage learning and awareness?
USER RESEARCH
We conducted a survey to gauge how informed people are about ocean plastic pollution, and what they would like to see on an educational website. We found that most respondents have an average to low understanding of ocean plastic pollution. It was also interesting to find that some respondents, especially of the older generations, were not even aware of the issue of ocean plastic pollution. Therefore, we shifted our target audience to include a wider age group beyond children.

Research data from knowledge-based questions

LEARNING TYPES AND ENGAGEMENT
In our survey, respondents preferred having different types of learning styles. To increase engagement and interest among children and adults alike, we opted to include text, videos, and animations. Animated GIFs are strategically placed to create the feel of an immersive site, and videos and interactive sliders add clickable engagement.

SOCIAL MEDIA
In our survey, we received a couple of suggestions to have a social media page, as that would most likely reach the most people. I was in charge of the Instagram page and made a couple of sample posts, including organization highlights, fun facts, and samples of content from our website.
